The Ladies Of Grace Adieu

By Susanna Clarke. Actually, I've cheated. I've read most of another book : "Nine Who Escaped Hitler," but I didn't actually finish it because I got bored. So I read the Ladies of Grace Adieu, another book my husband bought me. It's primarily short stories, but they all have kind of the same theme: historical fantasy in England. It was very cool. I've read about half of Susanna Clarke's novel "Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell", but I found it to be too long, though I did enjoy what I read of it. Life is too short to commit yourself to a huge book unless it just sweeps you off your feet and carries you away. It was good, but it didn't do that for me. But the Ladies of Grace Adieu was a quick read and very entertaining. A-
